Could mate help prevent colon cancer? Colon cancer cells died when exposed to the same bioactive compounds found in one cup of yerba mate, according to 2012 research by the University of Illinois. These mate compounds also lessened markers of inflammation, a process that helps cut the risk of colon cancer developing. Mate may also help protect against other cancers, too. Yerba mate helps slow the proliferation of oral cancer, according to 2005 and 2004 studies by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Keep an eye on future research into the potential health benefits of this drink as further study is definitely needed and welcomed.
