Bodega Nanni: Cafayate winemaking with love

While the mega-wineries of Cafayate roll out the millions of barrels, Nanni keeps it small and perfectly-formed with its mini organic bodega. For Nanni, success in winemaking comes not only from the earth and the climate, but through the people who work the land; their experience and their winemaking passion.

In 1997 Bodega Nanni achieved organic certification, to celebrate its 100th birthday. Years of knowledge combined with modern techniques and a respect for the environment result in a limited-edition production of young and reserve wines. Low humidity at high altitude (1,750m above sea level), a big difference between day and night temperatures and strong constant winds feed the vines and give the wines their distinctive character. The majority are exported and the rest sold in Salta.

The wine tours (in English and Spanish) start in the sunny grass-filled courtyard, proceed through the barrels and end up at a generous and informal stand-up tasting.

Like the tours, the Nanni wines are uncomplicated, fresh and enjoyable. Bright and cheerful Nanni Torrontés is your wine for a seafood dinner on the deck as the sun sets, with a strawberry-scented Nanni Rosato Cabernet Sauvignon thrown in for good measure. The Malbec is satisfyingly intense, the colour of squashed berries and just as perfumed. Nanni Malbec is asado-friendly but to ring the changes with the red meat choose the Tannat, a variety from the Valle de Cafayate with real impactful flavour and likeability. Robust black-pepper-and-nutmeg Cabernet Sauvignon is for the cheese course and the honey-sweet Torrontés Tardío rounds things off in style. Feel the love.
